The Dragon hits #7000!
Posted by Beaverbeliever - 3.1.08
Dragon's Passion 4 Caching hit her 7000th milestone today, and also completed the OregonSAGA Fizzy Challenge. This is a big day in caching for her, and here is the log she made on her FTF of the Fizzy Cache:
"Woo Hoo - #7000 for me, and FTF on Oregon's Fizzy! Wow, what an amazing ride this last 3 years has been, tomorrow is my caching anniversary and this was a great way to celebrate it, by looking back at all the many caches and types of caches that I've done. When this one first published, I got to see how many I still had left to complete it, and there were eleven. With careful planning, I was able to pick some of them off two at a time. But, with the last ones I needed still under snow, it wasn't looking promising before Spring. Thank goodness there are kind-hearted souls helping us all out by putting out new caches for this. These last few caches that I needed were some of the most fun as they were challenging and different. You guys are great! THANKS for placing this, it's been a LOT of fun finishing it off!! And, thanks to my hiking buddy tonight, who walked .71 down the railroad tracks, in the dark, even after hiking most of the day. I owe you, Mrs. Kensquach!"
Congrats to the Dragon on this big time in Caching for her!

Proposals Pass in Landslide
By Spencersb - 1.22.08
Two proposals establishing new membership rules and voting procedures passed overwhelmingly at the January meeting!
Following months of brainstorming and weeks of discussion, OregonSAGA members voted unanimously to approve new voting procedures and membership rules. Two "no" votes cast during the "membership" vote turned out to be a prank by a certain member who shall mercifully remain nameless. A review of the membership revealed that both votes were, in fact, unanimous. Also vindicated was the newly established "proxy" procedure, which worked smoothly and allowed 4 members to express their wishes, although they were unable to attend the meeting in person.
Both proposals will remain approved but pending until the status of our non-profit paperwork has been determined. President Chris "Geolite69" DeBolt confirmed that we have provided the IRS with everything they have requested, and are awaiting their decision.
Bob "Ornith" Taylor gave a brief description of the planned "Oregon Fizzy Challenge" cache. All members agreed that this is a very exicitng development, though few gave themselves any hope of ever completing it!
Ken "Mr. Kensquach" Anderson gave a brief presentation regarding an upcoming series of caches in conjunction with the Oregon Heritage Tree Program. SAGA was priviledged to have a special guest; Diane, with the Heritage Tree Program, who gave an excellent description of the Program and how SAGA can participate in this historic series marking Oregon's Sesquicentennial. More information will be forthcoming on how SAGA members can participate in this partnership with the State Travel Information Council.
Lastly, it was confirmed that Denny's has instituted a policy of charging $50 for the use of the meeting room we met in Sunday. The general consensus was that this is not an efficient use of SAGA's limited funds, so unfortunately, it looks like we will be moving again. Stay tuned for more details!
OregonSAGA January Membership Info
Written by Mr. Kensquach, Posted by Beaverbeliever - 1.13.08
Here is a piece written by Mr. Kensquach about the new structure of OregonSAGA. We will be discussing this further at the meeting...
Elected officers
Per our bylaws there are five elected positions for SAGA: President, VP, Sec, Treasurer, and Member Representative. Nominations will be taken between the December and January meetings. Premium members of SAGA will vote on the nominees to fill the five executive positions.
In the event of a tie, the non-tied winners will cast the final vote.
After the officers are elected it will be up to those that are elected to decide who of the five will fill the positions.
Appointed positions
There will be a need for executive members that are not elected officers due to the particular experience/expertise that not all members will have. These positions are Webmaster, Media Relations, Chat site Moderator and CITO Coordinator.
Communication
An executive chat site will be maintained for elected and appointed positions. This site will be used to work out the day to day business of the organization. After elections are complete the Moderator of the site will remove the members not reelected and add newly elected and appointed members in.
The Vote
Voting will be done at our monthly SAGA meeting by dropping a bead (white for yes black for no) into container anonymously. For voting members that wish to vote but can't make the meeting a vote can be cast by emailing the webmaster. Voting beads will be provided at the meeting.
Voting for annual election of officers will be by a double-blind paper ballot. Ballots will be available for download from the website.
Nominations for members to serve on the Executive Committee will be solicited from 15 December through 31 December each year. A ballot will be produced from the nominations received and made available o the membership via the website as described above. Members (as defined by the membership rules in place at the time of the vote) will print and mark their ballots, place them in an unmarked envelope, then seal that envelope inside a mailing envelope and mail them to the address designated by the then serving Executive Committee. Ballots will be opened and counted at the January meeting. For the first year only, nominations will take place in late January with the ballots counted at the February meeting.
Routine votes on various subjects may be held at regular monthly meetings. Proposals will be developed by the Executive Committee and posted to the event page and the Google discussion group at least one week before the meeting in order to solicit comments from the membership. Final versions of the proposal will be posted at least three days before the meeting. Voting will take place AT the meeting only. Each attending member with voting privileges will be provided with one white bead and one black bead for each issue being voted upon. A container will be passed at the meeting into which members may cast their vote by dropping the white bead for "yes" and the black bead for "no." Any member who cannot attend the meeting may give their proxy to any one member of their choosing prior to the meeting by requesting a proxy code from the webmaster. The member can provide their proxy holder with that code. A designated Executive Committee member will verify the code at the meeting and provide voting beads
for the proxy holder. Choose your proxy holder carefully, you are
trusting them to attend and cast your vote according to your wishes.
If your proxy holder does not attend, your vote will not be cast.
For purposes of this proposal and for the membership proposal begin voted upon at the January 2008 meeting, all members of the Google group age 18 and over will have ONE vote on each issue.
